The MTN Kampala marathon may have concluded on Sunday, but many of its memories are still fresh in many minds. The most prominent is that almost 80% of the podium finishers were from the Sebei region; an enviable position that others promise to end if the government can facilitate training camps elsewhere.
More than 20-thousand people took part in the 2019 MTN Kampala marathon that climaxed on Sunday. These were from all corners of Uganda from different tribes and regions.
It is hard to tell which region or even tribe had the biggest number but what is not debatable is that runners from the Sebei region dominated the podium that attracted cash prizes.
This has drawn envy from runners that came from the Karamoja region who were first-timers at this stage.
The plea from the Karamoja region team is for government aid in the form of training camps.
That request is reiterated by Richard Okot the chairman of the Karamoja Games organizing committee who enabled the runners to travel for the marathon.
Proceeds from this year’s MTN Marathon will go towards improving maternal health.
