Viane Sekajugo scored against his former club as Wakiso Giants beat Onduparaka 1-0 at Kabaka Kyabaggu Sports Stadium.
The Purple Sharks came into this fixture off the back of two defeats to Uganda Police FC (2-1) and Mbarara City (1-0).
Onduparaka came close to making the breakthrough inside 11 minutes as Gadaffi Wahab’s free-kick from the left-wing rattled the crossbar.
Wakiso Giants had most of the ball in the early stages, but they were struggling to create opportunities. Karim Ndugwa (Wakiso Giants) had a go from outside the Onduparaka box, but his effort was saved by Yusuf Wasswa (Onduparaka’s goalkeeper).
On the 23rd minute, Alex Gasper’s (Onduparaka) super-cross found Joel Jagayembe, who dragged his effort wide.
Viane Sekajugo scored for the Purple Sharks on 43rd minute but did not celebrate because Onduparaka is his former club.
Wakiso Giants had just about shaded the possession with 59% in the first half.
The Caterpillars started the second period on a high winning two corners in quick succession, but they both came to nothing.
The scoreline remained 1-0 till the final whistle. It was an impressive 90 minutes of football from the home side as they picked a 1-0 win over Onduparaka at Kabaka Kyabaggu Sports Stadium.
Livingstone Mbabazi got his first win as Wakiso Giants’ head coach. As they say, third time’s the charm.
Wakiso Giants FC are now 8th on the log with 23 points while Onuparaka are 6th with 27 points.
