KCCA FC have moved within two points of log leaders Vipers after a 2-1 win over Maroons in the only game of the StarTimes Uganda premier league played today at the Startimes stadium in Lugogo.
KCCA FC came into today’s game five points shy of leaders Vipers and needed a win to put their title defense back on track.
Despite a number of biting injuries to key players, Mike Mutebi set out to attack the visitors and it paid off.
Mike Mutyaba put the hosts ahead in the 21st minute after getting to the end of a brilliant build-up orchestrated by Herbert Achai.
17 minutes later, Kezironi Kizito, who was returning from a two months suspension for indiscipline, set up Erisa Sekisambu who slotted home for the Yellow Lads to give them a two-goal lead by the break.
Upon resumption, Douglas Bweyana’s introduction of Fred Angau almost proved a tactical masterpiece as he almost brought the visitors back in the game.
His cross in the 67th minute was poorly dealt with by Peter Magambo who netted in his own net to give consolation to the visitors.
The win kept KCCA FC second with 44 points – two behind leaders Vipers while Maroons remains 10th with 24 points.
Meanwhile, returning Express FC boss Wasswa Bbosa has started work today with the six time league champions.
The former Tooro United boss replaced the axed George Ssimwogerere at the helm of the struggling Red Eagles. His first test will be on Friday against Onduparaka in Arua.
