The governing body of football in Uganda, FUFA, declared the 2019/20 StarTimes Uganda Premier League over on Wednesday (May 20), with Vipers crowned champions.
By the time the league went into a break, Vipers SC was four points clear of second-placed KCCA FC with five rounds of matches left to completion of the season.
However, the league could not return due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The announcement by FUFA comes after president Museveni said that “sports activities, notably football, cannot restart any time soon’ because of the spreading of the virus.
Consequently, Vipers SC and KCCA FC will go into the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederations Cup respectively next season, while relegated Maroons FC, Proline FC, and Tororo FC will play in the StarTimes FUFA Big League.
Maroons FC’s forward, Steven Mukwala wins the golden boot with 13 goals.
Maroons FC, Tooro United, and Proline Football Club have been relegated from the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, while Myda FC and UPDF FC jubilate promotion to the top-flight.
Kiboga Young, Kataka FC, Kitara FC, and Ndejje University FC will play off for the 3rd slot of promotion.
