FUFA, UPL crack the whip on SC Villa

The disorganisation and leadership challenges that have engulfed Sports Club Villa over the course of the off season continues to threaten to drag the club asunder.

The Jogoo who have on two occasions been warned by the Federation of Uganda Football Association to put their house in order could miss out on playing in the 2021/22 season.

FUFA through the custodians of the league the Uganda Premier League have decided to exclude the record StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions from the updated fixture list.

The new league season gets underway on October 15, and while the Jogoo were included on the draft fixtures, and were among nine clubs that were granted provisional licenses, they have not been included on the new fixture list that was released on Tuesday.

This stems from Villa’s refusal or negligence to meet the ultimatum set by FUFA for the club to hold club presidential elections.

The club’s trustee board has since revealed plans to hold a congress meeting on October 23, the deadline set by FUFA for the club to have concluded presidential elections.

FUFA, which is headed by Moses Magogo – a member of the SC Villa congress – has retaliated by cracking the whip on the club.

Should Villa’s suspension continue, the club could be demoted to the third tier – the Regional League – as the league’s sporting regulations dictate.

Meanwhile, Busoga United have been included on the updated fixture list after fulfilling the minimum licensing requirements. By the time the draft fixtures were released, the club had only registered 11 players of the required 15 players and were yet to get clearance for their home round.

Busoga United start their season underway against newly promoted Gadaffi FC in one of the three instalments of the Jinja derby that we shall have this season.

There are two games scheduled for live broadcast on Sanyuka TV with league champions Express FC getting the season underway against last season’s FUFA Big League champions Arua Hill.

On Sunday, Police FC host Vipers SC in the other live game that will be broadcast on Sanyuka TV from the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
