Express FC striker Eric Kambale has expressed his happiness at seeing his side end the year on a high after scoring a brace as he helped the champions to a 4-0 victory over Busoga United.
Kambale, also voted man of the match took his tally for the season to six goals with the two goals at the Betway Muteesa II Stadium.
The victory helped the Red Eagles to climb into the top four for the first time this season, and also take their unbeaten run to 11 games since losing back-to-back games in October.
That run has seen them win six games and draw five others, but Tuesday’s victory over the relegation strugglers is their biggest win of the season, and according to Kambale, it is a platform that they can build upon.
“We are very happy to win the game,” the striker told the club’s media after the game.
“As a team we worked hard for the points and for the victory and we are happy to finish the year with a good win.”
“Hopefully, we can come back stronger and keep on building on this in the coming year.”
“I am so happy to score twice as a player. On a personal level, I want to come back stronger in the next year and continue getting the goals,” he added.
George Ssenkaaba put Express in a deserved lead after 21 minutes, pouncing on a poor clearance from defender Peter Onzima to lash a left foot strike into the bottom corner.
Two minutes later, Kambale got in on the act, with a sumptuous finish from Martin Kizza’s ball into the top left corner, and would add a second in the 41st minute from the penalty spot.
Midfielder Mahad Yaya Kakooza put the icing on the cake with virtually the last kick of the game with a shot from 25-yards that sailed over the goalkeeper for Express’ fourth.
The win takes the Red Eagles to fourth position on the log on 23 points after 13 league games played. Next up for Wasswa Bbosa’s charges is an away trip to struggling Tooro United on Tuesday.
