Anwar Ntege’s second half strike helped Busoga United to a 1-0 victory over SC Villa at the FUFA Technical Centre and help them move out of the relegation zone.
Busoga controlled possession throughout and went close early but Laban Tibita saw his effort agonisingly bounce off the crossbar wit goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige rooted to the spot.
Kibirige, making his first start for the side since January 4, was kept busy through half hour and did well to keep out Ntege’s header off Paul Ssekulima’s cross.
Villa almost went ahead through Travis Mutyaba in the 35th-minute, but his effort was kept out by a strong save from Andrew Ssekandi.
The visitors Busoga kept on the front foot at the start of the second half, but were lucky to survive a swift counter as Nicholas Kabonge was denied by the woodwork.
Ntege won the game for Busoga United on 65 minutes finally beating Kibirige who had stood as a colossal in the Villa goal.
The striker had the ball in the back of the net moments later, but his headed goal was ruled out for offside.
Busoga’s sixth win of the season, and first on the road since November 2021, lift them into 11th position and two points above Villa who slip into 12th place.
