Rahmat Ssenfuka scored the only goal as Wakiso Giants defeated UPDF FC 1-0 to extend their winless run to 12 games in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
Wakiso went close to scoring om eight minutes at the Bombo Barracks Stadium as Joshua Lubwama drew a top save from goalkeeper Brian Bweete.
The hosts then grew into the game and had several opportunities to take the lead, but were lethargic in crucial moments.
Their explosions into the attack left the Army Boys exposed at the back and nearly paid the price but Ibrahim Wamannah made a timely interception to deny Sam Ssenyonjo.
Moses Aliro went through on goal but was also denied by a timely block from Donato Okello. On the other end, Edward Satulo did well to deny UPDF striker Ivan Ahimbisibwe a breakthrough on goal.
Julius Kisambira put his header over the bar from a Musa Mudde free kick and Ambrose Kirya headed straight at the goalkeeper Derrick Emukule as UPDF started the second half on the front foot.
The Purple Sharks finally broke the deadlock with eight minutes to play, tapping in Aliro’s cut back at the far post after his deep run was not tracked by the UPDF defenders.
Back-to-back wins for Wakiso moves them up to sixth position on 33 points, two points above Express who now slip into seventh but have played a game less.
A second defeat in three games leaves UPDF only five points above the relegation zone, and slip into 10th position behind Police FC on goal difference.
