Three suspended by FUFA for match fixing

Ugandan football governing body FUFA has cracked the whip on three officials accusing them of attempting to influence results of a Stanbic Uganda Cup match between Free Stars and Tooro United.

The three officials including Abraham Luzzi, James Kaweesa and Kawowo Sports Journalist David Isabirye are said to have approached a player to manipulate results of the game played at Works playground in Entebbe in January.

The player – Jackson Kigozi, a goalkeeper at Five Stars – then turned Luzzi and Kaweesa in, before they were arrested and detained at Abayita Ababiri Police Station.

Luzzi, who recently served as a marketing executive with Police FC, has been banned for 10 years, while Kaweesa must serve a 15-year ban.

Isabirye, accused of failing to report the misdemeanour is banned from ‘any kind of football activities at National and International level’ until March 2024, FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Committee said in its verdict.

A statement said: “FUFA’s Zero tolerance Policy against all kinds of Match manipulation or match fixing has seen the FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Committee hand bans to three football officials.”

The FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Committee has banned Mr. Abraham Luzzi for ten (10) years from taking part in any kind of football activities at National and International level.”

“Luzzi breached Articles 27, 31 and 44 of the FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Code all related to the manipulation of football matches and Competitions, failure to report and breach of General duties of conduct.”

“Luzzi was found guilty for approaching a player to influence and manipulate the result of the Uganda Cup match between Five Stars FC and Tooro United FC.”

The statement added: “James Kaweesa has been banned for fifteen (15) years from taking part in any kind of football activities at National and International level.

“Kaweesa was found guilty for making offers to a player to influence and manipulate the result of the Uganda Cup match between Five Stars FC and Tooro United FC.”

“The FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Committee has banned Mr. David Isabirye for two (2) years from taking part in any kind of football activities at National and International level,” the statement continued.

“Isabirye breached Article 31 (Failure to report) of the FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Code. He is banned for failure to report the illegal conduct of Mr. Abraham Luzzi and Mr. James Kaweesa.” who approached a player to influence and manipulate the result of the Uganda Cup match.”

“Isabirye also failed to provide valid and acceptable evidence to show that he had fulfilled his duty to report the illegal conduct,” the statement said.
