After a promising league start, UPDF Football Club continue to re-strengthen their squad. Their head coach Kefa Kisala has identified potential weak links and is slowly fixing them.
The club is in the final stages of acquiring experienced defender Bernard Muwanga. Muwanga rejoined SOLTILO Bright stars in January 2020 after seven months on loan to Proline Football Club from KCCA Football Club, and is expected to put pen to paper before the league resumes according to Kisala.
“We are in talks with Muwanga and I am sure he will be part of us when the league resumes,” Kefa told this website.
Muwanga was key to the promotion of Bright Stars to the 2013 Uganda premier league in addition to leading Uganda to the 2018 CHAN finals and as a result he brings great experience to the Bombo-based club whose fulcrum largely spins on mostly talented but inexperienced players.
Among other experienced players at the army side is former Sports Club Villa, Zesco United, and Vipers Sports Club’s striker Davis Kasirye, former BUL Football Club goalkeeper Eric Kibowa, in addition to former Bright Stars U17 and Uganda U20 center-back Samson Kasozi who the team has just included in the squad.
On the other hand, the club showed exit to five players who include goalkeeper Tony Kimera, winger Juma Ssebaduka, defender Najib Gwaidu Tusaba, Fred Okot, and Ronnie Kisekka after a general review of their performance in the league matches played so far.
UPDF sit on top of the league table with four wins and only one loss hence 12 points in five matches.
