Transforming Ugandan Schools: Hon. Mubaraka Munyagwa Calls for Practical Changes.

Mubarak Munayagwa on Sanyuka TV

In a recent chat on #SanyukaBigendaBitya with Anna Talia Oze, Hon. Mubaraka Munyagwa shared his thoughts on Uganda’s schools. He talked about the habit of parents picking schools to show off rather than thinking about what’s best for their children.

Munyagwa says waking up early and travelling far for school isn’t necessary for young children. He suggested a rule that children should go to schools close to home, not more than one kilometre away. Also, he wanted buses to stop picking up children who live far away.

“There is a school in Kenya where influential figures in Uganda send their children,” he said. He questioned why these ‘important folks’ don’t prefer expensive local schools.

He also spoke about schools changing fees, making parents believe there’s a lot of studying by making their children carry bags full of books. He shared his experience, scoring 18 in O-levels and 57% in law studies. He compared it to children from fancy schools who failed, saying those schools focus more on passing exams than understanding the subjects.

Lastly, he asked the government to change how we teach. He wanted a curriculum that included important skills like using advanced technology. He said we should move away from traditional crafts to teach children things like AI.

Hon. Mubaraka Munyagwa suggested simple changes, like going to nearby schools and parents taking their children to schools they can afford. He also wanted the government to update what children learn to be more practical and useful in today’s world.

Children who grow up without fathers become delinquents – Pastor Ssempa

Renowned Pastor, Martin Ssempa has said children who grow up without fathers become delinquents and urged African parents to give more time to their children and try as much as possible to avoid ‘the modern-day growing vice’ of single parenting.

Ssempa, famous for fighting against homosexuality, while appearing on Sanyuka TV’s lifestyle show, She Talk on Sunday 2nd April 2023 went vocal on the roles of the two parents, mother, and father, in a family and how this impacts the children’s upbringing.

He says single mothers can’t raise kids appropriately and asserts that this is the biggest reason why black families are getting more broken.

“The number one reason why the black family has gotten broken more is that fathers are missing from the lives of their children. While single mothers believe they can raise children alone, the absence of a father makes the kids grow into delinquents,” Sempa said.

Ssampa believes children without fathers are ‘usually showered with lots of love’ and ‘no rules are applied to them’ to understand the other side of reality.

“Without a father, the kids are not governed appropriately and the constant showering of love from their mother makes it difficult for them to grow into responsible citizens of tomorrow,” he added.

Martin Ssempa is a Pastor, Anti-homosexuality Activist, and Founder of Makerere Community Church.

Ssegirinya And Ssewanyana To Spend Christmas In Prison.

Hon. Ssegirinya Muhammad and Hon. Allan Ssewanyana will spend their festive season in prison while their family members and lawyers prepare for the next court hearing.

The hearing of this case was meant to happen on September 1st 2022, presided over by Justice Alice Komuhangi Khaukha, who was, unfortunately, absent on that day, leaving the two with no trial Judge until today morning, September 5th, 2022, when the registrar Pamela Lamunu Ocaya adjourned the case.

The International Crimes Division of the High Court has set February 20th, 2023, for the pre-trial proceeding for the two Members of Parliament, Muhammad Ssegirinya and Allan Ssewanyana, which is meant to help them apply for bail.

This means that the two MPs will be spending the festive season in prison for the second time in a row, and they are left with a few weeks to make two years in prison without bail.

Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana have been remanded at Kitalya Government prisons on charges of murder, terrorism, and attempted murder relating to the wave of Machete murders that hit the Greater Masaka region last year.
